Waverley Community Council’s first land asset

Several years ago, Harworth worked with Sheffield Hallam University as part of projected called 'active towns' which looked at different ways to deliver green community spaces. From this project, a community group called the Waverley Buds was formed, which has worked on a number of small gardening projects over the last few years. Since the formation of the group, they have worked with Waverley Community Council, Well Rotherham and Harworth to create a new community garden space in the centre of Waverley for nature and residents to enjoy.

Since many local councils own land such as cemeteries, car parks, community buildings, allotments, parks etc., Waverley Community Council is unusual in that it owns none of these. We are now pleased to announce that the triangular area between Lescar Road and Highfield Lane is now leased to the WCC. The space continues to be worked and managed by the Waverley Buds with the raised planters, a seating area, fruit trees and a nature pond for all to experience and enjoy.
